At Inspired Recruitment Group, we understand that considering a new role can feel like a big step. That's why every conversation is completely confidential, relaxed and without pressure. Whether you're actively looking or simply curious about what else is available, we're happy to have an initial chat.

We are currently working with a large and successful optical multiple in the Portsmouth area that is looking to recruit experienced Optical Assistants to strengthen its team.

This is a busy, high-performing practice with 5 testing rooms and a team of around 27 people. Due to the volume of patients coming through the practice, they are looking for Optical Assistants who already have a good foundation within optics and can confidently get involved with the day-to-day running of the shop floor.

The practice is well established with a strong local patient base and would suit somebody who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment with plenty of variety.

Responsibilities of the Optical Assistant

You will be involved across the patient journey, including:

" Dispensing spectacles and advising patients on suitable frame and lens options
" Frame styling, fittings and adjustments
" Supporting patients throughout their visit
" General shop floor and customer service duties
" Reception and administration where required
" Working closely with the wider team to keep the practice running smoothly

Requirements of the Optical Assistant

You must have a minimum of 12 months' experience working within optics.

They are ideally looking for someone with good dispensing experience who is comfortable working within a busy practice and can quickly become a reliable member of the team.

You should be friendly, confident and proactive, with a genuine focus on customer service and the ability to build strong relationships with both patients and colleagues.

What's on offer?

" 13.50- 14.00 per hour DOE
" Individual sales bonus
" Full-time or part-time considered
" Part-time hours would need to be full working days rather than half days
" Large and established team of around 27 people
" 5 testing rooms
" Future opportunities to progress into management or potentially onto the Dispensing Optician course
" Parking options nearby, including free parking within walking distance
" Supportive, busy environment with plenty of opportunity to develop

The practice trades Monday-Saturday 9am-5pm and Sunday 9am-4pm, with flexibility around weekend working required.

Looking for progression?

For someone ambitious, there is potential to develop further within the business. Progression is unlikely to happen immediately within the first 12 months, but longer term there could be opportunities within management or Dispensing Optician training for the right person.

What happens next?

Once you apply, I'll give you a call to have a confidential chat about your experience, what you're looking for and whether the opportunity could be a good match.

There's absolutely no pressure to proceed. If you're interested, I'll take care of arranging the interview and supporting you throughout the process.
