Optical Network Engineer - Fiber Optics

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Optical Network Engineer to join their expanding team in Manchester . You will play a crucial role in the design, implementation, and optimisation of high-capacity optical networks that form the backbone of modern telecommunications. This position demands a deep understanding of fiber optic technologies and DWDM systems, ensuring the delivery of reliable and scalable data transmission solutions. Key Responsibilities

• Design and engineer scalable optical network architectures, including passive optical networks (PON) and active optical components.
• Install, test, and commission new fiber optic links and DWDM systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
• Monitor optical network performance using advanced diagnostic tools, identifying and resolving signal degradation or loss issues.
• Perform regular maintenance and upgrades on optical network equipment to ensure maximum efficiency and longevity.
• Develop detailed documentation for network designs, test procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
• Collaborate with field technicians and other engineering teams to ensure seamless project execution and issue resolution.

Requirements

• Proven experience (4+ years) as an Optical Network Engineer or in a similar role within the telecoms industry .
• In-depth knowledge of fiber optic principles, cable types, connectors, and optical test equipment.
• Proficiency with Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM ) technologies and optical transport network (OTN) platforms.
• Familiarity with optical network design tools and software.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
• Relevant certifications in optical networking or telecommunications are a plus.
