Optical Network Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optical Network Engineer to join their established team in Manchester . Key Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and maintain optical transmission equipment , including DWDM, OTN, and ROADMs.
• Perform network diagnostics, fault isolation, and troubleshooting of optical network issues.
• Monitor network health and performance using specialized optical test equipment and software.
• Plan and execute network upgrades and capacity expansions for the optical layer.
• Ensure adherence to all safety procedures and company standards during field operations.
• Document network configurations, changes, and incident reports accurately.

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in optical network engineering or a related field.
• Strong understanding of fiber optic principles, transmission technologies, and standards.
• Hands-on experience with DWDM, OTN, SONET/SDH, and associated equipment.
• Proficiency with optical test equipment such as OTDRs, optical spectrum analyzers, and power meters.
• Familiarity with network management systems (NMS) and GIS tools for network planning.
• Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and respond to network outages as needed.
