Power Systems Engineer

About the Role

Our client, a major utility provider, is seeking a skilled Power Systems Engineer on a contract basis to contribute to critical grid modernization initiatives in Cardiff . This role focuses on the analysis, design, and implementation of robust power systems, ensuring reliability and efficiency. You will be involved in projects related to grid stability, protection, and the integration of renewable energy sources. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer to make a substantial impact on the future of energy infrastructure in Wales , working remotely with occasional site visits as required, and contributing to a more sustainable energy landscape.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze power system performance, identifying potential issues related to load flow, stability, and fault levels.
• Design and specify protection schemes, control systems, and equipment for transmission and distribution networks.
• Develop and review engineering studies, reports, and technical documentation for power system projects.
• Collaborate with project managers and field engineers to ensure successful implementation and commissioning of new infrastructure.
• Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry best practices in power system engineering.

Requirements

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, with a specialization in Power Systems.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in power system analysis, design, and operation, preferably within the utility sector.
• Proficiency with power system simulation software such as PSS/E, ETAP, or PSCAD.
• Solid understanding of power system protection principles, equipment, and standards.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to work autonomously.
