Job Title: Press Operator
Location: Birmingham
Salary: Approximately £29,670 during training, rising to approximately £31,625 once trained, including shift allowances
Hours: 38 hours per week
Shift: Weekly rotating mornings and afternoons
Contract: Permanent

Pertemps is recruiting on behalf of an established and growing Birmingham manufacturer. This is an excellent opportunity to join a quality-focused production environment where your experience will be valued and you will have the support needed to develop further.
You will operate power presses ranging from 20 to 250 tonnes, manufacture components to defined specifications and inspect your work throughout the production process.
The Role
Reporting to the Manufacturing Supervisor, you will operate power presses and associated production machinery to manufacture high-quality components in line with engineering and customer requirements.
Your responsibilities will include:
Operating power presses ranging from 20 to 250 tonnes
Manufacturing components to engineering drawings and quality specifications
Completing first-off and in-process inspections
Using verniers, micrometers, gauges and other measuring equipment
Ensuring components meet the required standards before progressing
Monitoring machine performance throughout production
Reporting machine faults and production issues promptly
Working with Supervisors, Coordinators and Engineers to maximise efficiency
Following production schedules and achieving daily output targets
Completing production records and maintaining product traceability
Supporting colleagues and contributing to a positive team environment
Maintaining a clean and organised workplace in line with 5S
Completing manual-handling duties when required
Following all quality and Health & Safety proceduresWhat We’re Looking ForTo be considered, you should have:
At least two years’ experience within a manufacturing or production environment
Previous experience operating power presses between 20 and 250 tonnes
Experience inspecting manufactured components
Confidence using verniers, micrometers and gauges
A good understanding of manufacturing quality standards
Strong attention to detail
Basic computer literacy
The ability to work safely within a busy production environmentAbout You

Identifies and reports problems promptly
Works effectively both independently and as part of a team
Is reliable, organised and adaptable
Is comfortable with the manual-handling requirements of the role

The training rate is £13.20 per hour, increasing to £14.07 per hour following successful completion of training.
You will rotate weekly between:
Morning Shift – 7.5% allowance
Monday to Thursday: 6:00am–2:00pm
Friday: 6:00am–12:00pmAfternoon Shift – 20% allowance
Monday to Thursday: 2:00pm–10:00pm
Friday: 12:00pm–6:00pmBased on the weekly rotation, total annual earnings are approximately:
£29,670 during training
