Salary: Approximately £31,625 during training, rising to approximately £33,576 once trained, including shift allowances
Hours: 38 hours per week
Shift: Weekly rotating mornings and afternoons

We are recruiting for an established and growing Birmingham manufacturer that places quality, safety and continuous improvement at the centre of its operations.
This is a hands-on setting role where you will prepare and operate power presses ranging from 20 to 250 tonnes. You’ll complete tooling changes and machine adjustments, inspect your own work and ensure production runs safely and efficiently.
The Role
Working as part of the manufacturing team, you will set and operate power presses and associated production machinery to manufacture quality components from engineering drawings.
Your responsibilities will include:
Setting and operating power presses ranging from 20 to 250 tonnes
Producing components to engineering drawings and specified tolerances
Completing machine set-ups, tooling changes and adjustments
Selecting and installing the appropriate tooling, jigs and fixtures
Conducting first-off inspections before production continues
Carrying out in-process quality checks using precision measuring equipment
Ensuring finished components meet the required specifications
Working with Production Coordinators and Engineers to improve efficiency
Monitoring machine performance and helping to minimise downtime
Identifying and reporting machine faults or production issues
Completing production records and maintaining product traceability
Working to production schedules and daily manufacturing targets
Supporting the training of colleagues when required
Maintaining a clean and organised workplace in line with 5S
Following all company quality and Health & Safety proceduresWhat We’re Looking ForTo be considered, you should have:
At least two years’ experience setting and operating power presses
Experience working with presses between 20 and 250 tonnes
Confidence completing tooling changes and machine adjustments
The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
Experience manufacturing components to specified tolerances
The ability to complete first-off and in-process inspections
Experience using verniers, micrometers, gauges or similar equipment
Good mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving skills
Basic computer literacy
A strong understanding of safe press-setting and operating practicesSalary and Shift Pattern
The training rate is £14.07 per hour, increasing to £14.94 per hour following successful completion of training.
You will rotate weekly between:
Morning Shift – 7.5% allowance
Monday to Thursday: 6:00am–2:00pm
Friday: 6:00am–12:00pmAfternoon Shift – 20% allowance
Monday to Thursday: 2:00pm–10:00pm
Friday: 12:00pm–6:00pmBased on the weekly rotation, total annual earnings are approximately:
£31,625 during training
