Join a welcoming SEND school in Medway that is passionate about supporting children with profound, severe and complex needs, and committed to helping every child reach their full potential. As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils’ learning through one-to-one and small group work, under the guidance of the class teacher. You will also be a valued and integral member of a supportive school team, working together to make a meaningful difference every day.
Part-time availability: Part-time is available. If you are looking for a part-time role, please advise of the number of days you are available in your application.
About the role

- Maintain a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment
- Accurately record observations and feedback to support assessment and planning
- Uphold safeguarding, confidentiality and health & safety procedures
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, families and external professionals
Essential:
- Experience working within a SEND school or SEND provision, either primary or secondary
- Previous experience supporting pupils with PMLD, complex learning needs and significant communication difficulties
- Ability to support personal care, including feeding, toileting and moving & handling, with dignity and respect
- Ability to remain calm, patient and consistent when supporting pupils with complex needs
- Ability to follow individual behaviour support plans, safeguarding procedures and staff guidance
Desirable
- SEND/TA qualification or relevant training
- Experience with AAC, PECS, Makaton or other alternative communication approaches
- Experience supporting pupils whose needs may be expressed through behaviours that challenge
- Flexibility, resilience and adaptability when working in a busy and demanding specialist environment
- A genuine passion for supporting children with SEND and helping pupils develop their confidence, independence and communication skills
While qualifications and previous experience are valuable, we're particularly looking for people who are patient, adaptable and able to build positive relationships with pupils.
This is a rewarding role within a specialist SEND setting and can also be demanding. Candidates will have the opportunity to discuss the school's environment, pupils' individual needs and the nature of the role in more detail as part of the recruitment process.
