About the Role
Our client is looking for an experienced and visionary Principal Bioinformatician to lead their advanced bioinformatics initiatives in Newcastle upon Tyne . This senior position will play a critical role in analyzing large-scale genomic and proteomic datasets, developing computational pipelines, and driving key research projects. You will collaborate closely with experimental biologists and data scientists to extract meaningful insights that fuel our understanding of biological systems and disease mechanisms. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of bioinformatics tools and algorithms, coupled with the ability to manage complex projects and mentor a team of bioinformaticians, contributing to significant advancements in the field from our Newcastle upon Tyne facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain scalable computational pipelines for the analysis of high-throughput biological data (e.g., next-generation sequencing, mass spectrometry).
- Perform sophisticated statistical analysis and interpretation of genomic, transcriptomic, and proteomic data.
- Design and manage bioinformatics projects, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality results.
- Collaborate with experimental teams to define data analysis needs and provide bioinformatics support.
- Mentor and guide junior bioinformaticians, fostering technical growth and best practices within the team.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in bioinformatics, computational biology, and relevant software/tools.
Requirements
- PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in bioinformatics, with a significant portion in a lead or principal role.
- Expertise in programming languages such as Python, R, or Perl, and experience with bioinformatics libraries.
- Proficiency in handling and analyzing large datasets, including experience with cloud computing platforms.
- Strong understanding of biological pathways, genomic variation, and statistical modeling relevant to biological data.
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects and effectively communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences in Newcastle upon Tyne .
