Principal Bioinformatician

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Principal Bioinformatician to join their dynamic research team in Milton Keynes . This critical role involves leading the development and application of sophisticated computational approaches to analyze large-scale biological datasets, driving insights in genomics, proteomics, and transcriptomics. You will work at the forefront of scientific discovery, contributing to groundbreaking research projects and collaborating closely with experimental biologists and data scientists. This position is essential for interpreting complex biological information and translating it into actionable research strategies within our advanced laboratory environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and implementation of bioinformatics pipelines for the analysis of next-generation sequencing (NGS) data, including genomics, transcriptomics, and epigenomics.
• Develop and apply statistical and machine learning methods to extract meaningful biological insights from complex datasets.
• Collaborate closely with experimental scientists to define research questions and design appropriate computational analyses.
• Build and maintain robust, scalable, and reproducible bioinformatics workflows and tools.
• Contribute to the interpretation of results and the preparation of manuscripts for publication and presentations at scientific conferences.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior bioinformaticians and research staff.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field.
• A minimum of 7 years of experience in bioinformatics , with a strong track record of analyzing large-scale biological data.
• Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in bioinformatics, such as Python, R, or Perl, and experience with shell scripting.
• In-depth knowledge of standard bioinformatics algorithms, databases, and software packages for genomics and transcriptomics analysis.
• Experience with high-performance computing environments and cloud computing platforms.
• Strong understanding of molecular biology principles and experimental designs.
