Principal Civil Engineer - Water Resources

About the Role

Our client is seeking a distinguished Principal Civil Engineer with specialized expertise in Water Resources to join their team in Plymouth, Devon, UK , operating on a hybrid basis. This senior role involves leading the technical development and strategic planning of water-related infrastructure projects, including flood defense, drainage systems, and water supply networks. You will provide expert consultancy to clients, manage complex projects, and mentor a team of water resource engineers. The ideal candidate will be a recognized authority in water engineering, driving innovation and ensuring sustainable solutions for critical environmental challenges.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, planning, and delivery of major water resource management projects, including flood risk assessment and mitigation.
• Provide expert technical advice on hydraulic modeling, stormwater management , and sustainable drainage systems (SuDS).
• Manage project teams, budgets, and timelines, ensuring successful project outcomes and client satisfaction.
• Develop and implement innovative solutions for water supply, wastewater, and environmental protection schemes.
• Conduct quality assurance reviews of designs and technical reports to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, regulatory authorities, and other key stakeholders.

Requirements

• A Master's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Water Resources or Environmental Engineering.
• A minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience in water resource engineering.
• Chartered Engineer status (CEng MICE) or equivalent is essential.
• Demonstrated expertise in hydraulic modeling software (e.g., HEC-RAS, InfoWorks) and GIS.
• Proven experience in managing large, complex water infrastructure projects and leading technical teams.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills are required.
