About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Principal Computational Scientist specializing in Genomics to join their cutting-edge, fully remote research team, leveraging expertise from the Oxford area. You will be instrumental in driving large-scale genomic data analysis, developing sophisticated computational models, and uncovering novel insights into disease biology and therapeutic targets. This senior role requires strong leadership, deep technical expertise, and the ability to guide complex projects from conception to completion in a flexible, remote setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and execution of large-scale genomic data analysis projects, including whole-genome, exome, and RNA-Seq studies.
- Develop and implement advanced computational algorithms, statistical models, and machine learning approaches for genomic data interpretation.
- Collaborate closely with geneticists, biologists, and bioinformaticians to translate genomic findings into biological insights and therapeutic strategies.
- Build and maintain robust, scalable, and reproducible bioinformatics pipelines.
- Provide scientific leadership and mentorship to junior computational scientists and bioinformaticians.
- Contribute to the strategic direction of the genomics research program and external scientific publications.
Requirements
- PhD in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.
- 8+ years of experience in computational genomics or a related field, with a strong track record of research and publications.
- Expertise in programming languages such as Python or R, and experience with relevant bioinformatics libraries and workflow management systems (e.g., Snakemake, Nextflow).
- In-depth knowledge of statistical genetics, population genetics, and machine learning techniques applied to genomics.
- Proven experience with cloud computing platforms (AWS, GCP) and managing large genomic datasets.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and collaboration skills, vital for a remote-first environment.
