Principal Electrical Engineer - Power Systems

About the Role

Our client is seeking a distinguished Principal Electrical Engineer with a specialization in Power Systems to join their esteemed engineering division in Manchester . This is a highly influential role, responsible for defining the strategic direction of power system design and integration for large-scale industrial and infrastructure projects. Key Responsibilities

• Provide expert technical leadership and direction on all aspects of power system design, analysis, and implementation.
• Develop and validate complex power system models for load flow, fault analysis, stability studies, and protection coordination.
• Lead the specification and selection of major electrical equipment, including transformers, switchgear, and generators.
• Oversee and perform detailed design calculations and reviews for high-voltage and medium-voltage systems.
• Mentor and guide a team of electrical engineers, fostering technical excellence and innovation.
• Liaise with regulatory bodies, clients, and utility companies to ensure project compliance and seamless integration.

Requirements

• Doctorate or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, with a strong focus on Power Systems.
• 12+ years of progressive experience in electrical power system engineering, with a focus on design and analysis.
• Deep expertise in power system stability, transient analysis, and protection philosophy development.
• Demonstrated experience with industry-standard simulation tools (e.g., PSCAD, EMTP-RV, DIgSILENT PowerFactory).
• Proven track record of leading large, complex power system projects.
• Excellent strategic thinking, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills, critical for this role in Manchester .
