Principal Planning Officer

Principal Planning Officer Location: North West England Rate: £55-60 per hour, dependent on experience and level Contract Length: 6 months Job Reference: 70630 Carrington West are currently recruiting for an experienced Principal Planning Officer to join a local authority in the North West on a 6-month contract. Working within Development Management, you will manage a varied caseload, predominantly major and complex planning applications, while providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior officers.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage major and complex planning applications from pre-application discussions through to determination and associated post-decision matters.
• Lead negotiations with developers, agents and consultees, including planning conditions
• Prepare delegated and committee reports, providing clear recommendations and presenting applications at Planning Committee.
• Provide expert planning advice to colleagues, elected members and external stakeholders.
• Prepare appeal statements and represent the authority at hearings and inquiries where required.
• Mentor junior officers, review reports and provide guidance on complex casework.
• Support the Team Leader with service improvements and maintaining the quality and timeliness of decisions.
