Principal Research Scientist - Structural Biology

About the Role

Our client is seeking an accomplished Principal Research Scientist to lead their Structural Biology efforts within their fully remote R&D team. This senior role will be pivotal in elucidating the three-dimensional structures of biological macromolecules, providing critical insights into their function and enabling rational drug design. You will utilize state-of-the-art techniques such as cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM), X-ray crystallography, and biophysical methods to tackle complex biological targets. The ideal candidate will be a visionary leader with extensive experience in structural biology and a passion for applying these insights to drive therapeutic innovation, working seamlessly within a distributed team to achieve groundbreaking results.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and conduct high-impact research projects focused on determining the structures of key biological targets using advanced structural biology techniques.
• Develop and optimize experimental strategies for protein expression, purification, crystallization, and data acquisition.
• Perform detailed analysis and interpretation of structural data, including density maps and refined models.
• Collaborate with computational chemists and drug discovery teams to translate structural insights into drug design strategies.
• Mentor junior scientists and contribute to the growth of structural biology expertise within the organization.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in structural biology and implement new technologies.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Structural Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, or a related field.
• Extensive experience (8+ years) in applying structural biology techniques , including cryo-EM and/or X-ray crystallography .
• Proven expertise in protein purification, characterization, and sample preparation for structural studies.
• Experience with structure determination, model building, and refinement software.
• Strong understanding of protein function and its relationship to molecular structure.
• Excellent leadership and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to work effectively in a remote team environment.
