Principal Scientist - Analytical Development

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Principal Scientist to lead their Analytical Development team in Derby . This leadership role is responsible for the strategic direction and execution of analytical method development, validation, and transfer for new pharmaceutical products. You will provide expert scientific guidance, manage a team of analytical scientists, and collaborate closely with formulation development, quality control, and regulatory affairs departments. This is a critical opportunity to shape analytical strategies and ensure the quality and compliance of products for patients, working within a reputable pharmaceutical company in Derbyshire .

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development and validation of robust analytical methods (e.g., HPLC, GC, dissolution testing) for drug substances and products according to regulatory guidelines.
• Provide scientific expertise and oversight for method transfer activities to QC and external partners.
• Troubleshoot complex analytical issues and ensure timely resolution to support project timelines.
• Manage and mentor a team of analytical scientists, fostering technical excellence and career growth.
• Contribute to regulatory submissions by authoring and reviewing analytical sections of dossiers.
• Stay abreast of emerging trends and technologies in analytical science and implement them where appropriate.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related field.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in analytical development within the pharmaceutical industry.
• Extensive experience in method development, validation, and transfer for small molecule drugs.
• Deep understanding of ICH guidelines, USP, and other relevant regulatory requirements.
• Proven experience in leading and managing scientific teams.
• Expertise in chromatography (HPLC, GC), spectroscopy, and other relevant analytical techniques.
