About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly accomplished Principal Scientist to lead innovative initiatives within their Drug Discovery Chemistry department in Leeds . This senior role is critical in driving the design and synthesis of novel therapeutic candidates. You will provide expert scientific leadership, guiding project teams from hit identification through to lead optimization, and contributing to strategic decision-making within the R&D organization. The successful candidate will possess a deep understanding of medicinal chemistry principles and a proven track record of success in bringing drug candidates forward. Key Responsibilities
- Lead medicinal chemistry efforts for multiple drug discovery projects, designing synthetic strategies for novel small molecules.
- Oversee the synthesis, purification, and characterization of target compounds.
- Collaborate closely with biologists, pharmacologists, and DMPK scientists to advance projects towards clinical candidates.
- Mentor junior chemists and provide technical guidance and expertise.
- Contribute to intellectual property generation and scientific publications.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or a closely related field.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in drug discovery within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry.
- Demonstrated success in lead identification and optimization campaigns.
- Expertise in modern synthetic organic chemistry techniques and analytical methods.
- Strong understanding of SAR, ADMET properties, and their impact on drug design.
