Principal Scientist - Drug Discovery

About the Role

Our client is looking for an experienced and visionary Principal Scientist to lead critical initiatives within their Drug Discovery division in Birmingham . This senior position involves setting the strategic direction for new therapeutic targets, overseeing preclinical research, and collaborating with external partners to advance our pipeline. You will be instrumental in shaping the future of our client's pharmaceutical research, applying your extensive knowledge of pharmacology and medicinal chemistry to solve complex biological challenges. Key Responsibilities

• Define and drive the scientific strategy for early-stage drug discovery programs.
• Lead multidisciplinary teams in the design and execution of experiments for target validation and lead optimization.
• Manage external collaborations with academic institutions and contract research organizations (CROs).
• Evaluate new technologies and methodologies to enhance the drug discovery process.
• Provide expert scientific guidance and mentorship to junior researchers and scientists.
• Ensure all research activities adhere to ethical standards and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Pharmacology, Medicinal Chemistry, Biology, or a related life science discipline.
• Extensive experience (10+ years) in pharmaceutical drug discovery , with a strong track record of success.
• Deep understanding of pharmacology , target identification, and validation principles.
• Proven ability to lead and mentor scientific teams effectively.
• Experience managing CRO relationships and project timelines.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and scientific writing skills.
