Principal Scientist - Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK)

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Principal Scientist to lead their Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK ) group in Sheffield . This senior role is crucial for optimizing drug candidates by understanding their absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion (ADME) properties. You will oversee critical preclinical studies, interpret complex data, and provide strategic guidance to discovery and development teams to ensure the successful progression of new medicines. This is a significant opportunity for a seasoned DMPK expert to make a substantial impact on drug development pipelines.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and conduct in vitro and in vivo studies to characterize the ADME properties of drug candidates.
• Develop and validate bioanalytical methods for quantifying drug concentrations in biological matrices.
• Interpret complex DMPK data to predict human pharmacokinetics and inform dose selection.
• Collaborate with medicinal chemists, toxicologists, and formulation scientists to optimize drug candidates.
• Provide strategic DMPK input into project teams and contribute to regulatory submissions.
• Mentor junior scientists and lead scientific initiatives within the DMPK department.

Requirements

• PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in DMPK research within the pharmaceutical industry.
• Strong expertise in designing and executing in vitro ADME assays (e.g., metabolic stability, Caco-2 permeability, CYP inhibition).
• Experience with bioanalytical techniques (e.g., LC-MS/MS) and PK data analysis software.
• Proven ability to manage projects and provide strategic scientific guidance.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.
