Principal Scientist - Structural Biology

About the Role

Our client is seeking an accomplished Principal Scientist with expertise in Structural Biology to lead key research initiatives within their world-renowned R&D hub in Cambridge . This senior position is vital for elucidating the three-dimensional structures of biological macromolecules, providing critical insights into their function and informing drug design strategies. You will oversee advanced structural biology projects, employ cutting-edge techniques such as cryo-EM and X-ray crystallography, and mentor a team of talented researchers. Key Responsibilities

• Lead and direct research programs focused on determining the structures of complex biological targets using techniques like cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) and X-ray crystallography.
• Develop and implement innovative strategies for protein expression, purification, and structure determination.
• Interpret complex structural data to understand molecular mechanisms and guide drug discovery efforts.
• Mentor and train junior scientists and technicians in advanced structural biology methodologies.
• Collaborate closely with medicinal chemists, biologists, and computational scientists across different departments in Cambridge .
• Publish research findings in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and present at international scientific meetings.

Requirements

• PhD in Structural Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, or a related field.
• Minimum of 8 years of post-doctoral and/or industry experience with a strong track record in protein structure determination.
• Extensive hands-on experience with cryo-EM , X-ray crystallography, or other advanced structural biology techniques.
• Proficiency in protein expression and purification, biophysical characterization, and structural analysis software.
• Demonstrated leadership capabilities and experience managing research projects and teams.
• Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
