Principal Scientist - Structural Biology

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced and innovative Principal Scientist to lead their Structural Biology efforts in Oxford . This senior role is critical for elucidating the three-dimensional structures of therapeutic targets and drug candidates, providing essential insights for drug discovery and development. You will utilize a range of cutting-edge biophysical and structural biology techniques, including X-ray crystallography and cryo-EM. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of independent research, strong leadership skills, and the ability to drive complex projects to successful conclusions within a collaborative R&D environment. Key Responsibilities

• Lead and conduct structural biology studies (X-ray crystallography, cryo-EM, SAXS) to determine the structures of key biological macromolecules and protein-ligand complexes.
• Oversee protein expression, purification, and characterization for structural studies.
• Develop and optimize experimental strategies for challenging structural biology projects.
• Analyze and interpret structural data, contributing to the understanding of molecular mechanisms and guiding drug design efforts.
• Collaborate closely with medicinal chemists, biochemists, and biologists to integrate structural information into discovery programs.
• Mentor junior scientists, manage project timelines, and contribute to scientific strategy and publications.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Structural Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, or a related field with a strong publication record.
• Minimum of 8 years of relevant postdoctoral and/or industry experience, with demonstrated success in leading structural biology projects.
• Extensive hands-on experience with X-ray crystallography and/or cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM).
• Proficiency in protein expression, purification, and biophysical characterization techniques.
• Expertise in analyzing and interpreting structural data using relevant software packages.
• Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to guide a team and interact effectively with collaborators in Oxford .
