About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced and technically authoritative Principal Software Engineer to join their advanced engineering group in Reading . In this role, you will be a key technical leader, responsible for driving architectural decisions, mentoring senior engineers, and tackling the most complex technical challenges. You will contribute to setting the technical direction for critical projects and ensure the development of scalable, resilient, and high-quality software solutions. Key Responsibilities

Lead the design and development of complex software systems, setting high technical standards.
Architect scalable, reliable, and maintainable solutions, making key technology choices.
Mentor and guide other engineers, fostering technical growth and best practices within the team.
Troubleshoot and resolve the most challenging technical issues impacting performance and stability.
Contribute to defining the long-term technical vision and strategy for the engineering organization.
Champion code quality, performance optimization, and robust testing methodologies.

Requirements

Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
8+ years of progressive experience in software engineering, with a proven track record of technical leadership.
Deep expertise in one or more programming languages and software architecture patterns.
Experience designing and implementing large-scale distributed systems.
Strong understanding of cloud technologies and modern development practices (DevOps, Agile).
Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to influence technical direction.
