About the Role

Our client is seeking an exceptional Principal Software Engineer to provide technical leadership and drive innovation within their engineering department in Reading . You will be responsible for designing complex systems, mentoring senior engineers, and shaping the future of our technology stack. This is a highly influential role requiring deep technical expertise, strategic thinking, and a passion for solving challenging problems at scale. You will guide architectural decisions, champion best practices, and ensure the delivery of high-quality, resilient software solutions that align with our company's long-term vision.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the design and implementation of highly scalable, performant, and reliable software systems.
Define and enforce architectural standards, patterns, and best practices across engineering teams.
Mentor and guide senior engineers, fostering technical growth and expertise within the team.
Conduct in-depth technical research and evaluation of new technologies, tools, and methodologies.
Identify and address complex technical challenges, ensuring robust and maintainable solutions.
Collaborate with product management and stakeholders to translate business needs into technical strategies.
Champion code quality, testing, and operational excellence throughout the software development lifecycle.

Requirements

Master's or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
10+ years of progressive experience in software engineering, with a significant focus on architecture and system design.
Proven expertise in designing and building large-scale, distributed systems.
Deep understanding of software design patterns, data structures, and algorithms.
Proficiency in multiple programming languages and extensive experience with modern technology stacks.
Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and container orchestration (Kubernetes).
Exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
