Process Chemist - Pharmaceutical Manufacturing

About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled and innovative Process Chemist to join their pharmaceutical manufacturing team in Wolverhampton . This role is integral to optimizing and scaling up chemical synthesis processes for the production of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs). You will be responsible for developing robust, safe, and cost-effective manufacturing methods, ensuring high yields and purity. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in organic chemistry and process development, with a keen eye for detail and a commitment to continuous improvement in a regulated manufacturing environment. This is a key role within a dedicated team focused on delivering high-quality pharmaceutical products, contributing to healthcare advancements from the West Midlands.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, optimize, and scale-up synthetic routes for APIs and key intermediates, ensuring process robustness and efficiency.
• Conduct process hazard assessments and implement safety measures to ensure safe operations at manufacturing scale.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues encountered during process development and manufacturing.
• Characterize reaction kinetics, thermodynamics, and impurity profiles to ensure process understanding and control.
• Collaborate with analytical chemists, engineers, and production teams to facilitate technology transfer and validation activities.
• Implement process improvements to reduce costs, enhance yields, and minimize environmental impact.

Requirements

• MSc or PhD in Organic Chemistry, Process Chemistry, or a related field.
• 3-5 years of experience in process chemistry or chemical development within the pharmaceutical industry.
• Strong knowledge of organic synthesis, reaction mechanisms, and analytical techniques (e.g., HPLC, GC, NMR).
• Experience with process scale-up, technology transfer, and troubleshooting in a manufacturing setting.
• Understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and regulatory requirements.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
