Process Chemist

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and innovative Process Chemist to join their established chemical development team in Bradford . This role is critical in the scale-up and optimization of chemical synthesis routes for active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). You will work hands-on in the laboratory and pilot plant, focusing on developing safe, robust, and cost-effective manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in organic synthesis, process development, and analytical techniques, with a passion for translating laboratory discoveries into efficient industrial-scale production.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, optimize, and scale-up chemical synthesis processes for APIs and intermediates.
• Conduct experimental work to define critical process parameters and ensure process robustness and safety.
• Perform hazard assessments and implement appropriate safety controls for chemical processes.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues that arise during process development, scale-up, and manufacturing.
• Utilize analytical techniques (e.g., HPLC, GC, NMR, MS) for reaction monitoring, impurity profiling, and product characterization.
• Collaborate with engineering, analytical development, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless technology transfer and production.

Requirements

• MSc or PhD in Organic Chemistry, Process Chemistry, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in process chemistry within the pharmaceutical or fine chemical industry.
• Strong understanding of organic synthesis principles, reaction mechanisms, and stereochemistry.
• Hands-on experience with process scale-up, including route scouting and optimization.
• Proficiency in analytical techniques for process monitoring and characterization.
• Familiarity with process safety principles and hazard evaluation.
