Process Chemist

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Process Chemist to join their innovative pharmaceutical manufacturing team in Cambridge . This role is central to the development, optimization, and scale-up of chemical synthesis processes for active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). You will apply your expertise in organic chemistry and chemical engineering principles to ensure efficient, safe, and cost-effective production methods. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on chemist to contribute to the advancement of critical drug manufacturing processes in a leading pharmaceutical hub.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize synthetic routes for APIs and key intermediates, focusing on yield, purity, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
• Conduct laboratory-scale experiments to identify optimal reaction conditions, reagents, and solvents.
• Perform process hazard assessments and implement safety measures to ensure safe operations.
• Scale up chemical processes from laboratory to pilot plant and commercial manufacturing scales, troubleshooting issues as they arise.
• Develop and validate analytical methods for monitoring reaction progress and product quality.
• Collaborate with analytical development, formulation, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless technology transfer.
• Author process development reports, technical transfer documents, and contribute to regulatory filings.

Requirements

• PhD or Master's degree in Organic Chemistry, Process Chemistry, or a related field.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in process chemistry within the pharmaceutical or fine chemical industry.
• Strong knowledge of organic synthesis, reaction mechanisms, and purification techniques.
• Hands-on experience with process scale-up, including understanding of chemical engineering principles and equipment.
• Familiarity with analytical techniques such as HPLC, GC, NMR, and MS for characterization and monitoring.
• Proficiency in safety evaluation of chemical processes and implementation of safety protocols.
