Process Design Engineer - Specialty Chemicals

About the Role

Our client is looking for a talented Process Design Engineer to join their innovative team in Bristol , focusing on the development of processes for specialty chemicals . This role is crucial for translating new product ideas from the lab to commercial-scale production, ensuring designs are efficient, safe, and sustainable. You will work on diverse and challenging projects, requiring a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical application. Key Responsibilities

• Develop conceptual and detailed process designs for new specialty chemical manufacturing facilities and modifications.
• Create and review process flow diagrams (PFDs), P&IDs, and equipment specifications.
• Perform process simulations, mass and energy balances, and risk assessments (e.g., HAZOP).
• Collaborate closely with R&D, project management, and operations teams throughout the project lifecycle.
• Ensure all designs meet stringent safety, environmental, and quality standards.
• Troubleshoot design issues and provide technical support during plant start-up and operation.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering .
• Significant experience (5+ years) in process design , particularly within the specialty chemicals sector.
• Proficiency with process simulation software (e.g., Aspen HYSYS, Dynsim) and CAD tools.
• Strong understanding of reaction engineering, separation processes, and process safety principles.
• Experience with scale-up from laboratory to pilot and commercial plants.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and teamwork skills.
