About the Role
Our client seeks a dedicated Process Development Chemist to join their innovative research and development team in Birmingham . This role is crucial for scaling up laboratory syntheses to manufacturing levels, ensuring robustness, safety, and efficiency. You will work closely with chemical engineers and production staff to translate new chemical routes into viable commercial processes. The position demands a meticulous approach to experimentation, a strong understanding of organic chemistry, and the ability to meticulously document and present findings to drive project success in a dynamic industrial setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and optimize synthetic routes for new chemical entities, focusing on scalability, yield, purity, and cost-effectiveness.
- Conduct detailed process hazard analyses (PHAs) and implement necessary safety measures for pilot and commercial scale operations.
- Perform Design of Experiments (DoE) to efficiently explore process parameters and identify optimal operating conditions.
- Characterize intermediates and final products using a range of analytical techniques, ensuring quality control and specification compliance.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure successful technology transfer and scale-up from lab to plant, providing ongoing technical support.
- Author comprehensive reports, development protocols, and regulatory submission documents related to process chemistry.
Requirements
- PhD or Master's degree in Chemistry , preferably Organic or Process Chemistry.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in process chemistry or scale-up, ideally within a pharmaceutical or fine chemical manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated expertise in synthetic organic chemistry and reaction mechanisms.
- Proficiency with analytical instrumentation such as HPLC, GC, MS, NMR, and KF titration.
- Experience with process safety evaluations and scale-up considerations in chemical manufacturing.
- Strong documentation skills and the ability to communicate complex scientific information clearly and concisely.
