About the Role
Our client, a renowned research and development centre for advanced chemical materials, is seeking a proactive Process Development Engineer to join their dedicated team in Cambridge . This role is instrumental in translating novel chemical concepts from the laboratory into viable, scalable processes for pilot production. You will focus on optimising reaction conditions, designing safe and efficient experimental setups, and validating processes for future industrial application. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious engineer to contribute to cutting-edge research and development in a highly collaborative and intellectually stimulating environment, requiring full-time presence to facilitate hands-on experimentation and collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and optimise chemical processes for small-scale and pilot-scale production.
- Design and build experimental rigs, ensuring safe and effective operation.
- Conduct experiments to evaluate reaction kinetics, yield, purity, and scalability factors.
- Analyse experimental data to identify process improvements and troubleshoot issues.
- Prepare detailed reports and documentation on process development findings.
- Collaborate with research chemists and other engineers to ensure successful process transfer.
Requirements
- Degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry with a strong process development background.
- At least 3 years of experience in process development, scale-up, or related roles.
- Hands-on experience with laboratory equipment and experimental design.
- Strong understanding of organic synthesis and chemical reaction engineering principles.
- Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
