Process Development Engineer - Pharmaceuticals

About the Role

Our client, a leading manufacturer in the pharmaceutical supply chain, is seeking a skilled and forward-thinking Process Development Engineer to join their expanding operations team in Stoke-on-Trent . This role is critical for optimizing and scaling up manufacturing processes to ensure efficient, safe, and compliant production of pharmaceutical products. You will apply engineering principles and innovative problem-solving to improve yield, reduce costs, and enhance process robustness, playing a vital part in bringing life-changing medications from development to market. Key Responsibilities

• Develop, optimize, and scale-up chemical synthesis or manufacturing processes for pharmaceutical intermediates and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs).
• Conduct laboratory and pilot-scale experiments to evaluate process parameters and identify critical control points.
• Design and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, yield, purity, and safety.
• Troubleshoot manufacturing issues and implement effective corrective and preventative actions (CAPAs).
• Develop process documentation, including batch records, SOPs, and validation protocols.
• Collaborate with R&D, Quality Assurance, and Manufacturing departments to ensure seamless technology transfer and process validation.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in process development or chemical engineering within the pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical industry.
• Strong understanding of chemical process design, scale-up principles, and validation requirements.
• Experience with process modeling and simulation software is a plus.
• Knowledge of GMP and regulatory requirements for pharmaceutical manufacturing.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
