Process Development Engineer - Specialty Chemicals

About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled Process Development Engineer with expertise in specialty chemicals to join their innovative team in Plymouth . This hybrid role allows for a blend of on-site laboratory and plant work with remote flexibility. You will be responsible for developing, optimizing, and scaling up novel chemical processes for high-value specialty products. The ideal candidate will possess a strong scientific background coupled with practical engineering experience, driving projects from concept through to commercialization. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development and optimization of chemical processes for specialty chemical synthesis.
• Scale-up processes from laboratory bench to pilot plant and full commercial production.
• Design and execute experiments to define process parameters, control strategies, and product specifications.
• Conduct process hazard analyses (PHAs) and ensure safe operating procedures are developed.
• Collaborate with R&D chemists and production engineers to facilitate technology transfer.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges encountered during process development and manufacturing.

Requirements

• MSc or PhD in Chemical Engineering , Chemistry, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in process development, scale-up, or manufacturing within the specialty chemicals sector.
• Hands-on experience with laboratory equipment, pilot plants, and process analytical technology (PAT).
• Proficiency in process simulation software and statistical analysis tools.
• Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and safety regulations.
• Strong problem-solving skills and excellent communication abilities.
