Process Development Engineer - Specialty Chemicals

About the Role

Our client is looking for a skilled Process Development Engineer with expertise in specialty chemicals to join their innovative research and development team based in Manchester . This role is central to driving forward the development and optimization of novel chemical synthesis routes and manufacturing processes. You will translate laboratory breakthroughs into robust, scalable industrial processes, ensuring commercial viability and adherence to strict quality and safety standards. The successful candidate will possess a passion for chemical innovation, strong analytical skills, and the ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced R&D environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize chemical processes for the synthesis of specialty chemical products from lab to pilot scale.
• Conduct thorough process research, including reaction kinetics studies, thermodynamic analysis, and material compatibility testing.
• Design and oversee pilot plant trials, collecting and analyzing data to validate process designs and operating parameters.
• Develop detailed Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) and ensure compliance with all safety and environmental regulations.
• Prepare comprehensive reports on process development activities, including recommendations for commercial scale implementation.
• Collaborate closely with the R&D chemists and manufacturing teams to ensure successful technology transfer.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry.
• At least 6 years of experience in process development, specifically within the specialty chemicals sector.
• Hands-on experience with laboratory and pilot plant equipment for chemical synthesis.
• Proficiency in process modeling and simulation software is advantageous.
• Strong understanding of organic chemistry principles and reaction engineering.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and a meticulous attention to detail.
