Process Development Engineer - Specialty Chemicals

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly motivated Process Development Engineer to innovate and improve their specialty chemical manufacturing operations in Birmingham . This role is crucial for enhancing product quality, increasing yield, and reducing manufacturing costs through the application of advanced chemical engineering principles. You will be instrumental in bridging the gap between laboratory-scale innovation and industrial-scale production, working in a collaborative environment focused on continuous improvement and technological advancement.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, pilot, and scale-up new chemical processes for specialty chemical products, ensuring seamless integration into existing manufacturing sites.
• Optimize reaction conditions, separation techniques, and purification methods to maximize product yield and purity.
• Conduct experimental work in the lab and pilot plant, meticulously documenting results and proposing actionable insights.
• Troubleshoot and resolve process-related issues on the plant floor, working closely with operations and maintenance teams.
• Evaluate and recommend new process technologies and equipment to enhance operational efficiency and sustainability.
• Prepare technical reports, process flow diagrams, and mass/energy balances for new and modified processes.

Requirements

• BSc or MSc in Chemical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• At least 5 years of hands-on experience in process development, scale-up, or manufacturing within the chemical industry, preferably with specialty chemicals.
• Proficiency with process simulation software and data analysis tools.
• Strong knowledge of unit operations, reaction engineering, and separation technologies.
• Excellent experimental design and problem-solving capabilities.
• Good communication and teamwork skills, essential for collaborating across departments in Birmingham .
