Process Development Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled Process Development Engineer to join their research and manufacturing hub in Oxford . This role is focused on developing and scaling up innovative chemical processes from laboratory benchtop to pilot-scale production. You will work closely with R&D scientists and manufacturing teams, bridging the gap between discovery and commercialisation. This hybrid role offers a dynamic mix of on-site laboratory and plant work with remote collaboration opportunities, essential for optimising processes and ensuring their robustness, safety, and economic viability for future manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development and optimisation of new chemical processes, focusing on scale-up challenges.
• Design and execute experiments to characterise processes and identify critical parameters.
• Conduct techno-economic evaluations and risk assessments for new process designs.
• Prepare comprehensive process documentation, including batch records and validation reports.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues encountered during process development and scale-up.
• Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including chemists, engineers, and production staff.

Requirements

• MSc or PhD in Chemical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in process development and scale-up, ideally in fine chemicals or pharmaceuticals.
• Strong understanding of chemical kinetics, thermodynamics, and unit operations.
• Experience with process modelling and simulation tools.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and a practical, hands-on approach.
• Proficiency in project management and communication, suitable for a hybrid work environment.
