Process Development Scientist - Biologics

About the Role

Our client is seeking a talented and motivated Process Development Scientist specializing in biologics to join their advanced manufacturing team in Derby . This role is central to optimizing and scaling up processes for the production of therapeutic proteins, antibodies, and other biological products. You will be involved in upstream and downstream process development, troubleshooting, and characterization to ensure robust, efficient, and compliant manufacturing. This is an excellent opportunity for a scientist passionate about biopharmaceutical manufacturing and contributing to the production of critical medicines.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, optimize, and scale-up upstream (cell culture) and downstream (purification) processes for biologics manufacturing.
• Design and execute experiments to understand process variability and critical process parameters (CPPs).
• Characterize product attributes and assess the impact of process changes on product quality.
• Troubleshoot manufacturing deviations and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs).
• Prepare technical reports, process descriptions, and contribute to regulatory filings related to manufacturing processes.

Requirements

• MSc or PhD in Biotechnology, Biochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related life science discipline.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in process development for biologics manufacturing .
• Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture, microbial fermentation, or protein purification techniques.
• Strong understanding of process analytical technology (PAT) and statistical experimental design (DoE).
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
