Process Development Scientist

About the Role

Our client is looking for a skilled Process Development Scientist to join their innovative team in Edinburgh . This on-site role is critical for optimizing and scaling up the manufacturing processes for novel pharmaceutical compounds. You will be responsible for designing and executing experiments to improve process efficiency, yield, and robustness, ensuring smooth transitions from laboratory to pilot-scale and commercial manufacturing. This position requires a strong scientific background in chemical engineering or a related field, coupled with hands-on experience in process development within the pharmaceutical industry.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and execute laboratory-scale experiments to optimize chemical synthesis and manufacturing processes.
• Develop and validate robust analytical methods for process monitoring and control.
• Scale-up processes from laboratory to pilot plant and commercial manufacturing, addressing technical challenges.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues encountered during process development and scale-up activities.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, manufacturing, and engineering.
• Document experimental results, process descriptions, and reports for regulatory submissions and internal use.

Requirements

• Ph.D. or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in pharmaceutical process development or scale-up.
• Strong understanding of chemical process principles, reaction kinetics, and thermodynamics.
• Experience with process analytical technology (PAT) and statistical process control (SPC).
• Proficiency in process modeling and simulation software is a plus.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a lab and pilot plant environment.
