Process Development Scientist

About the Role

Our client is seeking a talented and innovative Process Development Scientist to join their biopharmaceutical manufacturing team in Edinburgh . This role focuses on optimizing and scaling up manufacturing processes for novel biological drugs, ensuring efficient, robust, and compliant production. You will be involved in troubleshooting existing processes, developing new methodologies, and collaborating with upstream and downstream teams to achieve manufacturing excellence. The ideal candidate has a strong background in bioprocess engineering or a related discipline, with a passion for solving complex challenges in the manufacturing of life-saving therapies.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize biopharmaceutical manufacturing processes, focusing on upstream or downstream operations.
• Scale-up laboratory-scale processes to pilot and commercial manufacturing scales.
• Troubleshoot process deviations and implement corrective and preventative actions (CAPAs).
• Design and execute experiments to characterize critical process parameters (CPPs) and critical quality attributes (CQAs).
• Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and quality assurance teams to ensure smooth technology transfer and process validation.
• Author process development reports, technology transfer documents, and contribute to regulatory filings.

Requirements

• MSc or PhD in Biochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, or a related field.
• Minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience in process development for biologics or pharmaceuticals.
• Proven expertise in cell culture , fermentation, purification techniques, or formulation.
• Familiarity with process scale-up principles and challenges.
• Strong analytical skills and experience with relevant analytical techniques.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and experience working in a regulated GMP environment in Scotland .
