Process Safety Engineer - Chemical Manufacturing

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Process Safety Engineer to join their established chemical manufacturing site in Bristol . This critical role ensures the highest standards of safety are maintained across all operations, protecting personnel, the environment, and the company's assets. You will be responsible for implementing and overseeing robust safety management systems and conducting detailed risk assessments. This position offers a chance to make a significant impact on safety culture and practices within a key industrial region of the South West of England .

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and participate in process hazard analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP, LOPA, and FMEA studies.
• Develop and implement process safety management (PSM) programs and procedures.
• Conduct incident investigations and root cause analyses, recommending and implementing corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with relevant safety legislation and industry standards (e.g., COMAH).
• Review engineering designs and modifications for safety implications.
• Provide training and guidance to site personnel on process safety principles and best practices.

Requirements

• BSc or MSc in Chemical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in process safety engineering within the chemical, petrochemical, or pharmaceutical industries.
• In-depth knowledge of process safety concepts, risk assessment methodologies, and regulatory requirements.
• Experience with Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and quantitative risk assessment (QRA) is highly desirable.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to communicate complex safety information effectively.
• Experience working in a chemical plant environment near Bristol or similar industrial locations.
