Process Safety Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Process Safety Engineer to join their operations team in Plymouth, Devon, UK . This role is critical in ensuring the safe design, operation, and maintenance of our client's facilities, safeguarding personnel, the environment, and assets. You will be responsible for conducting hazard identification and risk assessment studies, developing safety procedures, and ensuring compliance with process safety regulations. This is an important position for an engineer committed to upholding the highest safety standards in the energy sector, contributing to a strong safety culture from their base in Plymouth .

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) such as HAZOP, LOPA, and FMEA studies.
• Develop and implement robust process safety management (PSM) systems and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with relevant safety legislation and industry best practices.
• Oversee the design and implementation of safety-critical equipment and systems.
• Investigate process safety incidents, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
• Provide process safety training and guidance to operational and engineering staff.

Requirements

• Degree in Chemical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in process safety engineering, preferably within the oil and gas industry.
• In-depth knowledge of process safety principles, risk assessment methodologies, and safety regulations.
• Experience with PHA software and incident investigation techniques.
• Strong understanding of safety-critical systems, relief systems, and emergency shutdown systems.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
