Process Safety Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Process Safety Engineer to bolster their safety initiatives in Birmingham . This role is crucial for ensuring that all chemical processes meet stringent safety regulations and industry best practices, thereby safeguarding personnel, the environment, and company assets. You will play a key role in identifying, assessing, and mitigating process-related hazards within our manufacturing facilities. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP ) and risk assessments for new and existing processes.
• Develop and implement process safety management systems (PSM) in line with regulatory requirements.
• Investigate process safety incidents, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, such as COMAH regulations, and industry standards.
• Provide technical expertise and training on process safety principles to engineering and operational teams.
• Maintain and update safety documentation, including safety data sheets and emergency response plans.

Requirements

• Degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related scientific field.
• Proven experience (3-5 years) specifically in process safety engineering within a chemical or manufacturing environment.
• In-depth knowledge of risk assessment methodologies, including HAZOP, LOPA, and SIL.
• Familiarity with UK and international process safety regulations and standards.
• Strong understanding of chemical plant operations and potential hazards.
• Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
