Process Safety Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a meticulous and experienced Process Safety Engineer to bolster their operations in Birmingham . You will play a pivotal role in ensuring the highest standards of safety across all operational facilities, focusing on the prevention of major accidents within the oil and gas sector. This position requires a deep understanding of process safety management systems, risk assessment methodologies, and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate will contribute to a robust safety culture, safeguarding both personnel and the environment by identifying and mitigating potential hazards before they can cause harm.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Process Safety Management (PSM) programs.
• Conduct and facilitate Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) such as HAZOP, LOPA, and FMEA studies.
• Oversee and execute safety integrity level (SIL) assessments and functional safety management.
• Investigate process safety incidents, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Ensure compliance with relevant UK and international process safety regulations and industry standards.
• Advise project teams on safety aspects during the design, construction, and commissioning phases of new facilities.

Requirements

• Degree in Chemical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• A minimum of 7 years of experience specifically in process safety engineering within the oil and gas industry.
• Proven experience in conducting various types of PHAs and understanding their outcomes.
• In-depth knowledge of safety regulations such as COMAH and international standards like API and IEC.
• Strong analytical and report-writing skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
