About the Role
Our client is seeking a diligent and knowledgeable Process Safety Engineer to join their operations in Sunderland . This role is critical in ensuring the highest standards of safety across all chemical processing activities, minimizing risks to personnel, the environment, and company assets. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining robust process safety management systems. This position offers the chance to work within a leading industrial organisation in the North East of England, contributing to a safety-first culture and fostering continuous improvement in hazard management.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive Process Safety Management (PSM) programs and procedures.
- Conduct thorough Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP, What-If, and FMEA studies.
- Investigate incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with relevant safety regulations and industry best practices.
- Develop and deliver process safety training to operational and engineering staff.
- Manage safety aspects of new projects and modifications to existing facilities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related safety engineering field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in process safety, preferably within the chemical or manufacturing industry.
- In-depth knowledge of HAZOP methodology and other risk assessment techniques.
- Familiarity with major hazard regulations and standards (e.g., COMAH in the UK).
- Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret complex technical data.
- Experience working in a Sunderland industrial environment is beneficial.
