About the Role
Our client is seeking a dedicated Process Safety Engineer to enhance their safety culture and compliance within their facility in Sunderland . This critical role focuses on identifying, evaluating, and mitigating process-related hazards to ensure a safe working environment. You will be responsible for implementing and managing process safety management systems, conducting risk assessments, and promoting best practices across the engineering and operational teams. This is an essential position for maintaining the highest safety standards in the Tyne and Wear region.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain robust Process Safety Management (PSM) systems.
- Conduct comprehensive process hazard analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP, LOPA, and FMEA studies.
- Investigate process safety incidents, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with relevant safety legislation and industry standards (e.g., COMAH).
- Develop and deliver process safety training programs for site personnel.
- Review engineering designs and Management of Change (MOC) proposals for safety implications.
Requirements
- Degree in Chemical Engineering , Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Proven experience in a process safety engineering role, preferably in the chemical industry.
- In-depth knowledge of PHA techniques and risk assessment methodologies.
- Familiarity with safety instrumented systems (SIS) and functional safety.
- Strong understanding of COMAH regulations and hazardous substance control.
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
