Process Safety Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Process Safety Engineer to join their dynamic team in Birmingham . This role is crucial for ensuring the highest standards of safety across all chemical operations, focusing on hazard identification, risk assessment, and the implementation of robust safety management systems. You will work closely with plant operations, engineering, and management to proactively address safety concerns and foster a strong safety culture. This hybrid position offers the flexibility to work remotely on specific tasks while ensuring essential on-site collaboration and oversight.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP, LOPA, and What-If studies, to identify and mitigate risks.
• Develop, implement, and maintain process safety management (PSM) programs and procedures in compliance with industry standards and regulations.
• Investigate incidents and near misses, performing root cause analysis and implementing corrective and preventive actions.
• Provide technical expertise and guidance on process safety aspects during the design, construction, and operation phases of new and existing facilities.
• Ensure compliance with relevant safety legislation and company policies, maintaining all required safety documentation.
• Promote a strong safety culture through training, communication, and active engagement with site personnel.

Requirements

• Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related safety discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in process safety engineering, with a strong understanding of chemical plant operations.
• Proficiency in conducting various PHA methodologies and using relevant software tools.
• In-depth knowledge of international safety standards and regulations (e.g., OSHA PSM, COMAH).
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
• Experience with hybrid work models, balancing remote analysis with on-site assessments and collaboration.
