About the Role
Our client is seeking a diligent Process Safety Engineer to enhance safety protocols within their facilities in Stoke-on-Trent . This crucial role focuses on identifying, assessing, and mitigating process-related hazards to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of personnel and the environment in the oil and gas industry . You will be responsible for implementing and maintaining robust process safety management systems, conducting safety studies, and promoting a strong safety culture. Your expertise will be vital in upholding the highest standards of operational safety and regulatory compliance across all site operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP, LOPA, and FMEA studies, to identify and evaluate risks.
- Develop and implement recommendations arising from safety studies to mitigate identified hazards.
- Ensure compliance with relevant process safety regulations and industry standards (e.g., Seveso Directive, OSHA PSM).
- Develop and maintain Safety Integrity Level (SIL) assessments and associated safety instrumented systems (SIS) requirements.
- Lead and participate in incident investigations, determining root causes and recommending corrective actions.
- Develop and deliver process safety training to operational staff and engineers.
- Audit safety management systems and procedures to ensure ongoing effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in process safety engineering, preferably within the oil and gas or chemical processing industries .
- In-depth knowledge of process safety management principles and methodologies.
- Experience with conducting and leading PHAs and risk assessments.
- Familiarity with safety instrumented systems (SIS) and functional safety standards (e.g., IEC 61511).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
