Product Development Scientist - Food Science

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Product Development Scientist with expertise in Food Science to join their innovative, remote-based R&D team, supporting their operations in Belfast . This role is integral to the creation and refinement of new food products within the dynamic FMCG industry . You will leverage your scientific knowledge and creativity to develop exciting new formulations, improve existing products, and ensure they meet consumer needs and regulatory standards. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development of new food products from concept to commercialization, ensuring alignment with market trends and consumer preferences.
• Conduct formulation, recipe development, and sensory evaluation studies.
• Optimize existing product formulations for taste, texture, shelf-life, and cost-effectiveness.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including Marketing, Operations, and Quality Assurance.
• Stay abreast of emerging food science technologies, ingredients, and regulatory changes impacting the FMCG sector .
• Prepare technical documentation, including specifications, process descriptions, and research reports.

Requirements

• Master's or PhD degree in Food Science, Chemistry, or a related scientific discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in product development within the FMCG food industry .
• Strong understanding of food chemistry, microbiology, processing, and sensory science.
• Proven ability to innovate and translate consumer insights into successful product attributes.
• Experience with laboratory equipment and pilot plant trials.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work autonomously in a remote setting.
