Product Development Scientist

About the Role

Our client is seeking a creative and innovative Product Development Scientist to join their dynamic team in a fully remote capacity, contributing to their FMCG product portfolio for clients across the UK, including those in Reading . This role is central to the ideation, formulation, and testing of new and improved consumer products. You will leverage your scientific expertise to translate market insights and consumer needs into successful product launches. The ideal candidate is passionate about food science and innovation, thrives in a remote R&D environment, and is adept at managing projects from concept to scale-up.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development and formulation of new FMCG products from concept through to commercialisation.
• Conduct laboratory experiments, pilot trials, and sensory evaluations to optimise product characteristics and performance.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including marketing, R&D, and manufacturing, to ensure successful product launches.
• Stay abreast of industry trends, new technologies, and regulatory requirements relevant to product development.
• Troubleshoot technical issues during product development and scale-up processes.
• Maintain detailed records of experiments, formulations, and test results, ensuring compliance with quality standards.

Requirements

• A degree in Food Science, Chemistry, or a related scientific discipline; a Master's or PhD is highly advantageous.
• Proven experience (3+ years) in product development, preferably within the FMCG or food manufacturing industry.
• Strong understanding of food chemistry, formulation science, and processing technologies.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and experimental design skills.
• Ability to work effectively and independently in a remote R&D setting.
