Project Manager – Rail & Infrastructure
Location: Manchester / Leeds / York Salary: Up to £75,000 DOE Sector: Rail & Infrastructure Working Pattern: Hybrid
CETO Talent are currently recruiting for an experienced Project Manager to join a specialist rail and infrastructure organisation delivering complex projects across the UK.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Project Manager with a strong rail or infrastructure background to take ownership of the successful delivery of complex, multi-disciplinary projects, working closely with clients, designers, contractors and specialist project teams.
The business delivers a varied portfolio of infrastructure projects, including stations, footbridges, depots, car parks and feasibility studies, with a focus on delivering projects that improve connectivity and support communities.
The Role
As Project Manager, you will take responsibility for the end-to-end delivery of projects, ensuring they are delivered safely, efficiently and to the required time, cost and quality standards.
You will act as a key client contact throughout the project lifecycle, building strong relationships with clients and stakeholders while providing clear leadership to multi-disciplinary project teams.
The role will involve coordinating design, procurement and construction activities, managing project risks and opportunities, overseeing change and financial controls, and working closely with engineering and technical specialists to ensure successful delivery.
You will also have the opportunity to contribute to wider business activities including tender support, fee estimates, resource planning, site inspections and business development.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end delivery of complex rail and infrastructure projects or a portfolio of smaller projects
- Act as the principal client contact throughout the project lifecycle
- Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with clients, contractors, consultants and other stakeholders
- Plan, manage and monitor design, procurement and construction activities
- Lead and coordinate multi-disciplinary project teams
- Manage project risks, opportunities, issues and dependencies
- Ensure health, safety, environmental and quality requirements are embedded throughout project delivery
- Ensure compliance with relevant statutory and regulatory requirements, including CDM and HMRI
- Manage project change control, financial reporting, invoicing and cost reviews
- Work closely with Engineering Managers and technical specialists to ensure design and delivery meet client requirements
- Review and approve key safety and construction documentation, including Construction Phase Plans and Work Package Plans
- Monitor compliance throughout the construction and delivery phases
- Oversee project close-out, handover, entry into service and Health & Safety file requirements
- Provide leadership, direction and support to project team members
- Contribute to fee estimates, resource planning, risk management, site inspections and tender activities
- Support wider business development and delivery activities where required
About You
We are looking for a Project Manager with proven experience delivering complex, multi-disciplinary rail or infrastructure projects.
You may have experience across projects such as stations, footbridges, depots, car parks, civils, structures or wider rail infrastructure.
You will have a good understanding of the different disciplines involved in infrastructure delivery, including civils, structures and permanent way, and be confident coordinating technical specialists and delivery partners.
The role would suit someone who enjoys responsibility, is commercially aware and can build strong relationships across clients, contractors and internal teams.
Key Requirements
- Proven experience delivering complex rail or infrastructure projects
- Experience working across multi-disciplinary project environments
- Understanding of civils, structures and permanent way
- Strong project leadership and team management skills
- Experience managing direct reports and external delivery partners
- Client-side, co-located or secondment experience within integrated project teams
- Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills
- Ability to influence and collaborate effectively at all levels
- Strong understanding of NEC3 contract administration and project governance
- Experience managing project risks, change, costs and delivery requirements
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- Ability to manage competing priorities and work to demanding deadlines
- Proactive, self-motivated approach to problem-solving
- Full understanding of health, safety and quality requirements within project delivery
Qualifications
A degree in a construction, engineering or project management discipline would be desirable, for example:
- Civil Engineering
- Construction Management
- Quantity Surveying
- Project Management
An HNC in a construction-related discipline with equivalent relevant experience will also be considered.
Actively working towards chartership or professional accreditation with a recognised body such as APM, ICE, IET or an equivalent professional institution would be advantageous.
