Job Description
We’re working with a brilliant independent consultancy in Manchester that’s looking to add a Quantity Surveyor to its growing team.
The culture is a big part of what makes this opportunity stand out. It’s a close-knit, genuinely supportive business where people are trusted to get on with their jobs, given responsibility and encouraged to have a voice - regardless of level.
There are no unnecessary layers or rigid hierarchies. The senior team remains hands-on and accessible, people support one another, and progression isn’t treated as one-size-fits-all. If you want to develop in a particular direction, you’ll be given the support and exposure to do it.
For someone who enjoys the technical side of Quantity Surveying but also wants more responsibility, closer client relationships and the chance to be part of a growing business, there’s a lot to like here.
The Opportunity
There’s a strong pipeline of interesting work across commercial, leisure & hospitality, education, regeneration and the public sector, with projects that have a genuine impact on the communities around them.
You won’t just sit behind a spreadsheet. You’ll have the opportunity to work directly with clients, become a trusted part of their team and take increasing ownership of projects as you develop.
Day to day, you’ll be involved in:
- Pre- and post-contract Quantity Surveying
- Cost planning and estimating
- Procurement and tendering
- Valuations, cost reporting and final accounts
- Contract administration
- Value engineering and risk management
- Working directly with clients, consultants and contractors
- Taking ownership of smaller projects while supporting larger schemes
About You
We’re ideally looking for someone with around 2-4 years experience within a consultancy/PQS environment.
You might be working towards your APC, approaching chartership or have recently become MRICS. More important is that you’re ambitious, good with people and looking for somewhere you can take the next step in your career.
You’ll ideally bring:
- A relevant Quantity Surveying degree
- Consultancy/PQS experience
- Strong communication and client-facing skills
- A proactive and collaborative approach
- The confidence to take on increasing responsibility
- An interest in developing both technically and commercially
What’s On Offer?
Alongside a varied project portfolio, you’ll get genuine support with your development and chartership from experienced people who remain actively involved in the work.
It’s the kind of environment where you can take responsibility without being left on your own, learn without being micromanaged and build a career around where you want to go.
If you’re a QS in Manchester who feels ready for more ownership, better client exposure and a more personal, non-corporate environment, I’d be happy to have an informal and confidential conversation
