Role Overview: My client is looking to appoint an experienced Electrical Site Manager to join its established rail infrastructure delivery team, overseeing electrical installation projects across the UK.
The company is an established rail and M&E contractor with Principal Contractor capability, delivering a range of electrical infrastructure and specialist depot improvement schemes.
Projects include lighting, power distribution, switching systems, depot protection systems, carriage wash installations and other electrical works within operational railway environments.
The successful candidate will take responsibility for managing one project at a time, overseeing site activities from mobilisation through to testing, commissioning and final handover.
You will manage direct labour, CIS operatives and subcontractors, ensuring works are delivered safely, on programme and in accordance with Network Rail requirements.
A key part of the role involves maintaining high standards of site documentation, including RAMS, daily site diaries, health and safety records, inspection reports and commissioning paperwork.
Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will be supported by an established delivery team and an in-house Quantity Surveying department.
The role is fully site-based and involves regular nationwide travel and overnight stays. Candidates based in Yorkshire, the Southwest or East Midlands are preferred, although other locations will be considered.
This opportunity would suit a hands-on Electrical Site Manager or experienced Electrical Supervisor with rail experience who is looking for a permanent position offering long-term stability and progression into Project Management.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage electrical installation projects within rail infrastructure and operational depot environments, ensuring safe and efficient delivery.
- Oversee electrical works including lighting, power distribution, switching systems and specialist depot installations.
- Coordinate direct labour, CIS operatives, subcontractors and site resources to achieve programme requirements.
- Plan and monitor site activities, ensuring works are delivered in accordance with drawings, specifications and Network Rail standards.
- Take responsibility for site health and safety, including RAMS, risk assessments and safe systems of work.
- Maintain accurate site documentation, including daily diaries, progress reports, inspection records and commissioning paperwork.
- Manage testing, inspection, snagging and final handover documentation.
- Coordinate material take-offs, ordering and resource requirements.
- Monitor programme progress, identify potential delays and resolve site delivery issues.
- Liaise with the Operations Manager, Project Managers and wider delivery teams to ensure successful project completion.
Essential Requirements:
- Minimum 3 years' experience as an Electrical Site Manager or Electrical Supervisor.
- Proven experience delivering electrical installation works within rail infrastructure or operational railway environments.
- Strong electrical services background, including lighting, power distribution, switchboards or associated installations.
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification, or actively working towards completion.
- SMSTS certification.
- CSCS Site Manager or Supervisor card.
- Good understanding of Network Rail requirements, site health and safety procedures and documentation standards.
- Experience managing site paperwork, including RAMS, daily reports, inspection records and commissioning documentation.
- Ability to manage site teams, subcontractors, programmes and site coordination effectively.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desired Requirements:
- Experience delivering electrical works within rail depots, stations or operational railway environments.
- Knowledge of specialist depot systems, including depot protection, carriage wash, CET or fuelling installations.
- Personal Track Safety (PTS) certification.
- ECS/JIB Black Card.
- Experience working for a Principal Contractor or specialist rail infrastructure subcontractor.
- Ambition to progress into Project Management.
Additional Information: This is an excellent opportunity to join an established rail infrastructure contractor with a strong pipeline of secured projects across the UK.
The client is particularly interested in candidates who combine practical electrical installation experience with rail industry knowledge and strong site documentation skills.
Specialist depot systems experience is advantageous but not essential, provided candidates have a solid electrical background and experience working within a rail environment.
With a one-project-at-a-time approach, strong internal support and opportunities for career progression, this position offers long-term stability and the chance to develop within a growing business.
