Remote Chemical Safety Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Chemical Safety Engineer to join their global operations team, working remotely from Southampton . This critical role will focus on ensuring the highest standards of process safety across all our chemical manufacturing sites and research facilities. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and auditing safety management systems, conducting risk assessments, and promoting a robust safety culture. This is a fully remote position that allows you to contribute significantly to maintaining a safe working environment without the need for daily office presence.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive process safety management (PSM) programs.
• Conduct thorough risk assessments, including HAZOP studies, LOPA, and consequence modelling.
• Investigate process safety incidents, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver process safety training to engineering and operational staff.
• Stay abreast of evolving safety regulations and industry best practices, ensuring compliance.
• Audit sites for compliance with PSM requirements and provide guidance for improvement.

Requirements

• Degree in Chemical Engineering or a closely related technical field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in process safety engineering, specifically within the chemical or petrochemical industry.
• In-depth knowledge of PSM elements, hazard identification techniques, and risk analysis methodologies.
• Familiarity with relevant international safety standards and regulations (e.g., OSHA PSM, Seveso Directive).
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders remotely.
• Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering safety training programmes.
